  • Wine production in the Dão region is one of the oldest and most prestigious in Portugal, having been the first Portuguese region to be demarcated, in 1908, for non-fortified wines. Since 1910, the CVR do Dão (Regional Wine Commission of Dão) has represented, coordinated, controlled, certified, and authenticated wines with the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Dão and Lafões, guaranteeing the genuineness and quality of the wines through rigorous control covering the entire production and marketing circuit.
  • Its landscape, with vineyards scattered among pine forests and mountains, creates a unique ecosystem. The climate, with its strong Atlantic influence and temperature variations, combined with its granitic soils, gives the wines remarkable elegance, complexity, and aging potential. Among the red grape varieties, Touriga Nacional is the queen of the region, but Alfrocheiro , Jaen (or Mencía), and Tinta Roriz (or Aragonez) also stand out. For white wines, the Encruzado variety is the star, often complemented by Bical , Cercial , and Malvasia Fina. Dão wines are recognized for their elegance, complexity, freshness, and good aging potential.

Dão is one of Portugal's most emblematic wine regions, renowned for the elegance and balance of its wines. Protected by the Serra da Estrela, Caramulo, and Buçaco mountain ranges, the region benefits from a temperate climate and vineyards located at altitude, which contribute to a slow and harmonious ripening of the grapes.

The predominantly granitic soils impart freshness and minerality to the wines of the Dão region, resulting in fine and structured reds, highly precise whites, and wines with excellent aging potential. Grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Encruzado, and Alfrocheiro find a particularly elegant and balanced expression here.

Traditionally associated with aged wines, the Dão region is currently experiencing a period of renewal, with producers who respect the winemaking heritage but are betting on more contemporary, fresh, and defined interpretations.
